WHEATSTONE ADDS TRITON DIGITAL PROTOCOL TO STREAMING PRODUCTS

Triton Audio Marketplace, programmatic ad exchange for monetizing ad inventory, among the benefits for Wheatstone’s large installed base of AoIP customers.

NEW BERN, NC, USA  − April 4, 2023 − Wheatstone’s streaming appliances and Layers cloud streaming software are now available with Triton Digital’s streaming protocol.

Wheatstone is a leading broadcast AoIP equipment manufacturer whose WheatNet-IP Intelligent Network includes streaming appliances for provisioning, audio processing and metadata support of multiple streaming channels.

Triton Digital, the global technology and services leader to the digital audio, podcast, and broadcast radio industries, provides a fully owned and operated streaming audio CDN whose custom transport protocol, MRV2 (Media Relay version 2), has been made available to Wheatstone. Triton developed this proprietary protocol between the station’s master control room and the CDN to achieve the most accurate ad stitching and to ensure a high-quality listening experience.

Combining the two provides seamless integration between the studio AoIP system and content delivery, plus offers new streaming revenue opportunities for Wheatstone’s large installed base of customers around the world. “Managing this under one protocol between Triton and WheatNet simplifies the streaming process for our customers and introduces a few monetization benefits,” said Wheatstone Senior Software Engineer Rick Bidlack, referring to Triton’s programmatic ad exchange for monetizing ad inventory.

“This is a deep metadata and encoded audio integration that will give Triton Digital customers Wheatstone audio processing, Nielsen watermarking, and all those streaming functions by Wheatstone they’ve been asking for,” said Jean-Luc Wasmer, VP, Architecture and Partnerships, Triton Digital.

Unique to Wheatstone streaming products are audio processing tools designed specifically for streaming and bandwidth optimization.

Unique to Triton Digital’s streaming protocol is its ability to timestamp any metadata down to the millisecond enabling precise ad insertion in real-time.

Affected are WheatNet-IP streaming appliances Wheatstream and Streamblade as well as Layers Stream, which is part of the Wheatstone Layers Software Suite for mixing, streaming and FM/HD processing instances in house on a server or off-site at an AWS or other cloud data center.

Wheatstone streaming products accept most open-source and major proprietary streaming protocols.

In 2020, Wheatstone won an Emmy for the “development of synchronized multichannel uncompressed audio transport over IP networks," which led to the implementation of the AES67 standard.

Wheatstone will be demonstrating its streaming appliances and software at booth W3000 during the NAB show along with the latest Wheatstone AoIP and cloud products.
